The Pannese Society is an Italian Society started in 1909 by Italian immigrants who originated from Panni Foggia Italy. The society was formed to help other Italian immigrants who came to America at the turn of the century. The people of Panni first migrated to Southern New England mostly settling in the Providence, Rhode Island area. In later years, immigrants started settling in Montreal Canada and then to parts of Australia. Today, the Pannese Society acts as an international cultural and heritage society reconnecting the families, and teaching the new generations of the Italian Heritage. The Society works close with the people of Panni and town's elected Officials. Johnston, RI Mayor Joseph Polisena hosted the celebration. Over 300 people attended and the event was streamed live to Panni, Foggia. Many Politicians from RI spoke including Governer Gina Riamondo, and former Providence Mayor Vincent "Buddy" Cianci. The main points of the Sister City agreement includes education and exchange students, tourism, and various cultural events.
